Most nurses are from departments of critical areas and territorial emergency. Ambulances and an Advanced Medical Station (PMA) will also be available and distributed depending on the days of the race (see programme).
At the event the Italian Red Cross of Trentino will be present and collaborate with mountain rescue, aw enforcement and fire brigade. Cooperation with other voluntary associations of the Autonomous Province of Trento is also possible.

Ambulances used for healthcare comply with the minimum equipment necessary for basic medical vehicles as per the directive of Trentino Emergenza.

4. ACTIVATION AND MANAGEMENT OF MEDICAL INTERVENTION

At the beginning of the event, the Health Coordination Unit will communicate the start of the event coverage by confirming all digital selective calling radios and the relative ambulances to the provincial operations centre of Trentino Emergenza.
Anyone who witnesses a traumatic and/or medical event on the race route will have to immediately notify the Health Coordination Unit via radio communication or cable, specifying the area of the event, the race km and the number of injured.
The Health Coordination Unit and/or the Medical Director will send what is necessary for the health management of the event if not already available, once they have received the alert.

If necessary, the healthcare personnel supported by the rescuers will treat the patients according to the known protocols. The PPE to be worn during the rescue as indicated by Trentino Emergenza are: FFP2 masks. If patients have tested positive for COVID, the PPE will be: FFP2 mask, mask/goggles, gloves, gowns/overalls. Subsequently, the doctor will decide for a possible hospitalization using the most suitable vehicle and the required healthcare during the transport. First, the Health Coordination Unit and/or Medical Director will alert the provincial operations centre 118 unless otherwise requested by the doctor and/or nurse on site. All subsequent communications will be carried out between the health team on site and the provincial operations centre Trentino Emergenza. In case of intervention/hospitalization, health teams and ambulances will report in a timely manner that they have resumed their activity. In the case of patients who have tested positive for COVID, ambulances and devices used at the Italian Red Cross headquarters in via Muredei, Trento, will have to be sanitised before returning to the race. The total sanitation time before resuming the activity is 15 minutes.

The Organizing Committee has allowed some room on the back of the bibs for the athletes to write their personal details. As indicated by UCI, the required data are: NAME, SURNAME, DATE OF BIRTH, DISEASES, ALLERGIES, MEDICATIONS TAKEN, CONTACT OF FRIEND/KIN IN CASE OF EMERGENCY.

Adequate information will be sent to the Emergency Department of the hospital of Trento before the event. On 18 September 2022 by 10 am, the list of the athletes competing in the Medio and Gran Fondo will be sent there in order to facilitate the procedures of recognition and triage in case of transport to the hospital.

The Advanced Medical Station will be structured in 3 parts. The first is dedicated to asymptomatic athletes and staff, the second to the audience and the third to people with SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)- like symptoms. If there are symptomatic people within the Advanced Medical Station, antigen rapid nasopharyngeal swabs will be performed.

All the interventions must be recorded on the summary forms of Trentino Emergenza and handed in to the Health Coordination Unit at the end of the race. The athletes’ competition numbers and personal data as in the list of participants must also be reported.

The utmost attention must be paid during all race phases. Do not use acoustic/light devices unless authorized by the Health Coordination Unit and/or Medical Director and/or the provincial operations centre Trentino Emergenza.

In particular, during the Gran Fondo race on 18 September 2022, the arrival of rescue teams will undergo an adjustment of intervention times in collaboration with Trentino Emergenza because road traffic will be resumed.

In case of intervention that cannot be managed with the available resources, the units of Trentino Emergenza – 118 or other necessary forces will be activated according to the normal activation protocols.
