SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Protocol

1. PREMISE

In view of the historical health context of the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic emergency, the organisational and health personnel managing the sporting event has drawn up a SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) protocol.
The provisions and rules of conduct for containing the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) virus formulated in this document may be updated in the light of new indications from the Italian Ministry of Health (www.salute.gov.it). Nonetheless, this can only be done if one or more new versions of this protocol are available, which will be possibly drafted by the organization and sent out to all interested parties.

2. CORONAVIRUS

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses known to cause diseases ranging from the common cold to more serious diseases such as Middle-East Respiratory Syndrome (MERs) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
The virus that causes the current coronavirus outbreak has been called “Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)”.
The disease caused by the novel coronavirus is named “COVID-19”. “CO” stands for corona, “VI” for virus, “D” for disease and “19” indicates the year in which it occurred.
The most common symptoms include fever, cough and shortness of breath. In the most serious cases, this infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death. Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment.
About 1 in 6 people who develop the SARS-CoV-2 can progress to serious illness and have difficulty breathing. Elderly people and those with pre-existing conditions, such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease, are the most vulnerable ones.

The novel coronavirus is a respiratory virus that spreads mainly through close contact with an infected person. The virus spreads mainly through contact with breath droplets of infected people, for example through:

  • saliva, coughing and sneezing;
  • direct personal contacts;
  • hands, for example by touching mouth, nose or eyes with contaminated (i.e. unwashed) hands.

Normally, respiratory diseases are not transmitted with food. However, you should handle food in accordance with good hygiene practices and avoid contact between raw and cooked food.
The incubation period varies between 2 and 12 days; 14 days represent the maximum precautionary limit.

3. STANDARD PREVENTION MEASURES

Information on the correct hygiene practices to be adopted at all times is fundamental.

Standard hygienic-sanitary measures to be applied at all times:

  1. Outdoors and in common areas, social distancing of at least one metre must always be maintained
  2. Below this interpersonal distance, the use of respiratory protective equipment is recommended
  3. In all cases of potential mass gatherings or when it is likely to meet other people without being able to maintain physical distancing of at least one metre, respiratory protective equipment is recommended such as surgical masks or masks with a higher level of protection
  4. Disposable surgical masks and masks with a higher level of protection are used as respiratory protection equipment
  5. In public places where equipment or furnishings are shared, users must always and wherever possible be provided with hand sanitizers
  6. Wash your hands often
  7. It is recommended to make hydro-alcoholic solutions for hand-washing available inside the toilets;
  8. Avoid hugs and handshakes
  9. Respiratory hygiene (sneezing and/or coughing in a tissue avoiding contact of the hands with respiratory secretions)
  10. Avoid sharing bottles and glasses
  11. Do not touch your eyes, nose and mouth with your hands
  12. Clean surfaces with chlorine or alcohol-based disinfectants
